“There are many ways to increase the brain power; one is neurobics and others…. I don’t remember”. Is that the case with you? Brain is considered the power and control house of body. Nothing can be done without its command, as brain sends messages to different body parts for actions. Every action including seeing, sensing, smelling are related to brain. As a child, your brain is open to learning new things constantly, but with growing age, you set your routine doing same things day in and out and that prohibit you from learning and discovering new things. Your routine makes your brain automated that you start doing things subconsciously. After getting up in the morning, you directly move to washroom even without thinking, following same route to office every day, getting dressed in same way without paying much attention. All these things just happen and your brain is in most passive state.  With age, there also persists the problem of bad memory. Its severity and symptoms vary. Other than feeding your brain healthy diet, physical exercises and many brain boosting exercises are to be done for smarter and intelligent mind. In this high competitive world, where you need to excel in studies, job and business, you need to out smart others not just by working hard but by using you brain in intelligent and more creative way. Succeeding in competitive exams need extra smart brain. Here are some unusual exercises and methods to boost your brain power and teach brain new tricks.

NEUROBICS:

As Aerobics is for keeping your body fit and in shape. Similarly a new term is coined for brain activity and boosting brain power called NEUROBICS. This includes activities for making your brain active and fit. With neurobics, you involve all five senses and not just use the dominant ones of vision and hearing. In fact, research studies have shown that using multiple senses at the same time is actually the best learning process as it improves both comprehension and retention of learning. Neurobics do two things to your mind:

    1. BREAKS YOUR DAILY ROUTINE IN SOME SIGNIFICANT WAY
    2. INVOLVES USE OF YOUR ALL SENSES AND INCREASES YOUR ATTENTION.

The neurobics works in extraordinary ways to train your brain to be active and get better remembering power by producing more of those chemicals that encourage growth of new dendrites and neurons in the brain.

  1. GET DRESSED WITH CLOSED EYES: Yes, getting dressed with closed eyes makes all your senses strong and active. Your touch and feel, smelling sensing will be active and bring your brain in action mode.
  2. VISIT NEW ENVIRONMENT AND PLACES: You often get no time to go to new places due to busy schedules. But do take some time off to visit new places and gardens in nearby places. Observe new things and people around.
  3. SMELL NEW ODORS: Blind fold and try to recognize odors of different things, flowers etc.
  4. DISCOVER NEW ROUTE TO WORK: It should not be the longer one, but probably a new one. Do not follow the same old route.

SAYING NO TO IDIOT BOX:

“How T.V got this name “idiot box”? As it does noting to make you smarter but instead makes you dumb. The researchers have found that, just sitting in front of TV makes your brain in most passive state and helps you gain nothing. Instead use your time effectively by engaging yourself in some productive way like reading, chess playing or solving puzzles. Or you can make it more interesting by playing video games that stimulates your brain.

SPICE UP YOUR LIFE:

Boredom makes your brain dull and dumb. Following same daily routine, same food and same job routine drains the life out of your life. Try exploring news roads, take a break from regular routine, try cooking and trying new dishes in food, try meeting new people around and make friends. Find new ways to do same thing in different ways.

RIGHT FOR LEFT OR VICE VERSA:

You use you right hand for all activities, now its time to change. Use alternate hand for daily activities like brushing, using remote for changing channels, holding things. You must be wondering how it would bring change? Using alternate hand help to strengthen existing neural connections and make new ones.

REMIND YOURSELF TO LAUGH:

Yes, laughter isn’t just a good medicine for physical health but also for mental well-being. Laughter stimulates many parts of brain and is an important stress reliever. Take breaks when you study or have examination to laugh and share a light moment with someone. This will help you better retain things in your memory.

FEED YOUR BRAIN HEALTHY FOOD:

Junk food not only junks your body and increase excess fat, but also jams your brain. Feed your brain a healthy diet. Refrain from consuming more sugar contents, junk food and soda drinks. Try having foods rich in omega-3 like walnuts, almonds. The vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower are found to be effective in boosting brain power.

KEEP YOUR BODY MOVING:

Get enough of exercise to get your brain for fast processing. Exercise releases the chemicals that help in uplifting mood and development of new neurons in brain.Dance can be the best exercise, shaking your body to your favorite songs not only boost your mood but also freshen up your mind.
